Time…

Time, thus stupefied, will stand for a several more years

Thus exactly, will Time wait, steadfast-

Face masked, eyes shut, those stony eyes.

Gradually, silence will close upon stillness,

In width, they will scale the sky, in breadth till the horizon

Time’s offsprings, they are; formless, thoughtless inheritors.

At times, in my secret breaths, is nestled, parasitic Time

At times, from its cold shoulders, like a headless being, I come crawling

Unto its knee, hanging lonely, alone I watch the cosmos go around in seven steps.

Amazed, I am impelled to live a little more,

Several days more. Let life start from birth, or maybe, banging against death, let life retrace steps

To a birth, afresh.

Who else would let me live!

In some intricate web, upon who-knows which morn,

Taking me as its own child, if out-of-sight, nursing me like a destitute kin, it has tied me-

My Time.

Who would have given, on whom would have been entrusted, my life and death.

From time to time, for who else, but for Time itself I run, all day,

Against light, affectionately I see it, its stony eyes coming alive-

Its body, though doesn’t rest even two bits,

Upon its eyes, a black blindfold, it quickly ties.

Through naked nights, melancholy swims in still winds,

Holding days in clenched fists, silence spins around me,

Time stands still, mute. Time stands still, painless,

Heedless. Time stands still, careless.

Much like God, immobilized. Time.

My Time.

With love, hate, respect, in secret

I hold him in my heart, carry him in veins, let him be alive.

My Time. My assassin, I am born to birth him.

LOVE IF YOU WILL

This inhospitable chill, colder than ice,

Amid starless gloom, the cosmos stares with eyes corpse-like.

The sky is no more, upon man a man’s face is no more,

Paring and tearing, aiming toxic darts unto his self, himself will he destroy.

Underneath a train’s mad wheels

Would he throw all that remained, that still is, what could have been, all of it.

Such you claimed, if I left, things would be.

Dead, you would be.

But nowhere have I been,

Accusing me falsely, yourself have you walked away, non-chalantly.

Nor did I call you back.

That you will return a while later, musing thus, I didn’t call you back.

I stood the whole afternoon, the evening, stood the whole night.

Don’t you think, I went nowhere, for nowhere could I go,

I moved not an inch, for nowhere did I wish to go. Precisely where you left me,

There itself, cold, still, stony , I grew

I withstood.

Somewhere, what if, you might be

Wrenching your life from within life,

Deep inside a dark, damp cave, or stumbled upon a train-track-

Anxiety, a poisonous snake, coiled nightly around my lifeless shape.

Upon the grass, the morning dew trembled yet,

The fair-ground was drowsy, yet.

With incredulous eyes, I see you at a woman’sfeet

Kneeling-down, like the adulterous Krishna, are you pleading,

With self-same prose and verse, upon her, serenading.

That smile, that gaze of yours, have I known for a long while.

Dreaming, you kiss her, I know. Fantasizing, you cross all lines, you do

The fact that I wish to scream—go love, as you will,

Go far away and love, not before my eyes, don’t you love---

But I stilled.

My voice too, how strangely it froze, icier than ice

Deadfall

Gathering deadfall, I muse of torching them many a time,

As darkness comes, no matter how dark it is, I hold a flame.

Their gaze gives me goosebumps.

Death sheds all debts-

The leaves fly wherever, rioting within and without,

Bang against the window, flirt, play and laugh

They whisper non-stop, fall, do fall, keep falling.

I know there is nothing to it, yet who-knows-what, I dowse the flame.

I never can burn these leaves, some days they cry and so I desist

Snivelling, whimpering, as it were, under some feet.

As the cry scales the sky, aeon’s deathly silence

Crashes from a crescendo…

Someone walks in, into my lonely life someone comes by,

Might be he ventured nearby, so what, still he came by.

These fallen leaves hearken him, so long they hearken,

Till then I know he comes, till then I tell myself, that not nearby, not losing way, but at year-end, finding one’s way, looking

For me, someone will come by, affectionately.

Those few moments, for those few illusions

My hands and legs open up, I open up, this heart opens to admit life.

Around the house is a hillock of fallen leaves,

I simply can’t torch them.

I am drowning in these leaves, can’t burn them.
