SOYINKA & AFRICAN LITERATURE

African Literature is replete with good works that must be stopped as it no less important and creative than Western Literature .. with the exception of some serious attempts by some to introduce this literature and those black creators , we suffer a lack in this regard that is not commensurate with the great works contained in African Literature in various fields of creativity ( short stories – Novel – Poetry – Theatre ) as different culture have directly contributed to enriching the creativity of that black continent , along with European colonialism which is not without literary work reference to it , in addition to the heritage , environment and specials rituals that characterize that black African world which reflected on the arts and literature and gained it a special taste , and the followers can see all this clearly in the majority of African Literature production if not in all creations in all its forms .

"Wole Soyinka" is the most important and prominent African writer .. He was born in 1934 in the city of ( Abeokuta ) , southern Nigeria, before the outbreak of the Second World War, which spread itself as a boy .. Many thoughts and feelings were reflected in his works later, especially in his important novel (Ake , The years of Childhood ) , which is a A delightful autobiography written by "Soyinka" in a breathtaking and graceful manner in which he tells the story of his childhood and the beginning of his boyhood before and during the Second World War in AKE city in western Nigeria, so that it is difficult for those who wanted them to grow up in that environment and that multicultural place who would be like his age to grow up without remembering everything .

"Soyinka" enrolled in the( Abadan ) State School and completed his education at the University of( Abadan ) .. With the beginning of his enrollment in the university, his first story was broadcast on radio in 1951, which was an exciting event for him, and he is now a professor of comparative literature at the University of ( IVE ), Nigeria.

"Soyinka" received an honorary doctorate in literature from ( Yale ) University as well as many literary awards, the last of which was the Nobel Prize in 1986.

Creative and comprehensive artist:

The follower of Soyinka's varied work must stand up to a somewhat puzzling question: Is he a playwright? Or a novelist? Or a poet ?? !!

The answer to this question is all of that together, in addition to being a critic, actor, radio director, playwright, comedian, university teacher and designer of masks. This rich and varied artistic composition has had a great impact on his literary style.

During the prison period he wrote many poems and manuscripts in which he dealt with his experience and which was embodied in his famous work (this man died) in which he wrote his famous phrase: "A man dies in every human being who is silent in the face of tyranny."

‘’ Wole Soyinka ’’ started its production in 1960 with a novel (Forest Dance), followed in 1965 by the novel (The Enterpreters), in which it presents the problems and issues of intellectuals in a distinguished African world in a Nigerian city through a strong relationship between four friends (engineer - journalist - fine artist - teacher University )

In 1973 he wrote (Season of Chaos), which he followed with his book (Inside the Basement) and then (The Lion and the Jewel), (Strong Race), (Konji Revolution), (Death), (Swamp People), (Giants), (Years of Sadness), ( The trial of Brother Jiro), (followers of Bacchus), (Wenus opera ) and (shuttle in the basement).

"Soyinka" has published two books of poetry, the first in 1967 and the other in 1969, and his poem (telephone conversation) is one of his most famous poems .. In this regard, I would like to point out that all of his works are written in English, except for most of his poetry, which he wrote in his original language, which is the Yoruba language.

Soyinka’s Theater:

We stop a little before the following question: What about your future projects?

"Soyinka" answered: It is better to accelerate the operation of the theater with all our love and giving and how much I wish to devote myself throughout the life to the theater, as I can in the theater to achieve my presence to the fullest degree. This answer is quite sufficient to explain the extent of "Soyinka's" love for the theater, the love that lies in his complete freedom to deal with his tools, but the goal of the theater - he says - does not mean that he is not obligated to teach and enlighten and spread ideas in the minds of viewers, but - at the same time He places a commitment to himself in front of the audience and does not leave the stage before he has said something .

His most important theatrical works

- (The Lion and The Jewel): His first plays.

- (Forest Dance): written in 1960, in which he addressed independence celebrations and the relationship of Nigeria to its past .. It won an award and when it was presented on stage it met with great success.

- (The Strong Clan): A one-chapter play that the most like works to him .

- (The Way): Use the indication for writing the mask.

- (Brother Jiro's Trial): A one-chapter comedy play that tells a light tale of human evil.

Here, I would like to point out that, for our writer, comedies are the most difficult jobs.

(( "Soyinka’s" creativity motives ))

By reading Soyinka's fictional, theatrical, or poetic works, we can grasp a specific idea that seizes him : that people everywhere in the world are savages, destroying each other, or as he himself said: ((The human race is simply a wild sex !!))

Perhaps those are some of the ideas and feelings that we referred to at the beginning, which were reflected on his soul as a young boy during the Second World War and we can clearly see it in his various creations besides the hideousness and evils that Soyinka sees as a feature of the Western world.

Just as the pain provoked the artistic creativity of

‘’ Dostoevsky ‘’ and the human tormented conscience of

‘’ Tolstoy ‘’ and the persecution complex was by’’ Franz Kafka ‘’ , brutality, evils, and ugliness are the motives for creativity at ’’ Soyinka ‘’ who does not think of the recipient when he writes and does not care about the audience when he composes a work Theatrical, as he does not care whether that audience is from Nigeria or is it a spot in the world .. He writes with his mind that the hall is full of people and that these people feel and feel and that the writer cannot write about nothing .

This is how ’’ Wole Soyinka ‘’ writes, trampling his idea among the folds of his work, and you have to discover this idea or that which in most cases does not go beyond being a comprehensive human idea, and so is the creative writer’s position that transcends himself and his environment to a further vision and to more comprehensive horizons.
