Hamed Khawary (Afganistan/Netherlands) was born and brought up in Afganistan. He works as a human rights officer for UNO. In addition to his own writings, he translate Dari poetry to English. He has written a number of poems in Dari and is popular writer among the younger generation of Afganistan.

panic
we are a prisoner
sentenced to life
old and worn we escape every day
with a plan that ends to this dungeon
patience
we are confused
like bricks and tiles
a demolished monument, or
are we a spider
stuck in its own web
control
you are not alone
there are wounds
deeper than the black hole heavier than the universe
we are steam
when we rain,
we drown noah

تراژيدى
بترس
زندان هستیم
محکوم به حبس ابد
پیر و فرسوده هر روز فرار می‌کنیم
با نقشه‌اى که به این سیاه‌چال
می‌انجامد
شکیبا باش
چون خشت‌ها و کاشی‌های
فروریخته از یک بنای تاریخی
گيج شده‌ايم
تارتنکی هستیم
گیرکرده بر تار خويش
چیره شو
تنها نیستی
زخم‌هایی هست
تاریک‌تر از سیاه‌چاله و
سنگین‌تر از کهکشان
به بخارهایی ماند که
اگر ببارد
نوح را با پایان خوشش
غرق می‌کند.
